Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 2, 2026Welcome to Private Search Online. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a secure, untracked local browsing experience. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome Extension handles your data, the permissions it requires, and how we keep your information safe.
1. The Core Philosophy: Zero Local Tracking
Private Search Online is designed with a single purpose: to allow you to search the web without leaving a trace on your local device. We do not require you to create an account, we do not log your IP address on our servers, and we do not build personal profiles based on your search behavior.
2. Permissions We Request and Why We Need Them
To provide our core functionality, our extension requests specific permissions from your browser. We only use these permissions to protect your privacy, never to exploit it.
historyPermission: We require access to your browser's local history API strictly to delete it. When you initiate a search using our extension, we temporarily track the URLs generated during that specific session. The moment you close the tab, we use the history API to instantly erase those specific URLs from your device. We do not read, store, transmit, or monetize your browsing history.tabsPermission: We use this permission to detect when you close a tab that belongs to a Private Search Online session. This acts as the trigger to initiate the automatic history wipe. We do not monitor your activity on tabs unrelated to our search engine.storagePermission: We use local storage solely to save your personal extension preferences (such as whether the "Auto-Wipe" toggle is turned on or off). This data never leaves your device.
3. How Your Search Queries Are Processed
When you enter a search query via the Omnibox or our search portal:
- Search Suggestions: As you type, your query is routed through our secure proxy (
chromecrxstore.com) to Google's Suggest API to provide autocomplete results. This ensures your extension complies with Chrome Web Store policies while maintaining fast performance. - Search Results: Your final search query is processed using the Google Programmable Search Engine (PSE).
- Because the actual search results and suggestions are powered by Google, the processing of your query is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Data Sharing and Selling
We have a strict policy regarding your data:
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not share your data with third-party advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use your data to determine creditworthiness, for lending purposes, or any other unrelated activities.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our extension or Chrome Web Store requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Effective Date."
